WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach participants how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide support and assistance.

We are proud to be part of the only licensed and approved Mental Health First Aid instructor programme in England. Delivering the Adult two-day MHFA course to enable you have a named and accredited Mental Health First Aider in your workplace.  Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA will not teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. You will learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe. You will also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more. What is more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

WHY IS IT RIGHT FOR ME & MY ORGANISATION?

By training members of your team to become Mental Health First Aiders you will be making a commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of all staff within your organisation. Equipping staff with the knowledge and skills needed to create a mentally healthy workplace culture.

Your organisation will have a deeper understanding of the issues that impact on and relate to people’s mental health and the practical skills that can be used every day, including being able to spot the signs and symptoms of mental  health issues and feel confident guiding people towards appropriate support.
